I'd rather wear art

Nicholas Kirkwood has the most incredible art for one’s feet. I was introduced to him via a tweet by Vicky Harris. Below, I have inserted a collage of my favorite Kirkwood designs from past seasons. With royal color palettes and added extravagant details, the shoes appear very regal and sophisticated, yet possess a certain edge. The gold trim, pearls, and lace exude femininity, while the stilettos say “don’t fuck with me”. Nicholas Kirkwood’s stunning shoes would unquestionably be the only heels in Marie Antoinette’s modern-day closet. My BFF pointed out that the bottom left pair appears to have a mask on in the toe area. “Royal Masquerade” could certainly have been an underlying theme in the design process, and it truly blows me away. Each pair of shoes seems to go beyond a pair of good heels, by having the possibility to exist solely as striking pieces of modern art.

When I look at the shoes for the upcoming season, I see the stilettos female superheroes wear while they are out socializing as civilians with a secret, kick-ass identity.

Beautiful artwork/shoes from the Fall/Winter 2009 collection:

How many years do you think it shall be before he has an exhibit at the MoMA?
